Walnut Creek MTB RaceWalnut Creek Chimney Chase The Charlottesville Racing Club brings several cycling events to the central VA area throughout the year. The Chimney Chase showcases some of the best trails we have to offer. This is the third year that we are bringing you the event and we are extremely excited to be part of the Virginia Off-Road Series Registration available on BikeReg.com The Course We have tried to incorporate most of the trail system at Walnut to give racers a feel for our area. The 10.5 mile laps are suited to the all-a-rounders as there is a fair bit of climbing, smooth fast descents and a few technical sections to keep you on your toes. Walnut is a great venue and all of the locals want to know where they can drop the hammer and get the edge. The course is going to be the same as last year so I’ve included the info we put together for the first race after we mapped everything out. Click here for detailed course info The Cause C-Ville riders are indebted to the Charlottesville Area Mountain Bike Club, CAMBC for working with Albemarle County Parks and Recreation to keep these trails in tip-top shape year round. Many CRC members are also CAMBC members, and as such, this year’s race is co-sponsored by CAMBC and CRC. Profits from this race go to CAMBC. CAMBC not only keeps the trails at Walnut Creek open, they are also working with local government to create new opportunities for mountain biking in our area. In 2008 CAMBC received a grant from the BAMA Works Fund of the Dave Mathews Band and Charlottesville Area Community Foundation to advance new trails in the Charlottesville area. In January 2009, CAMBC broke ground on the 500+ acre Preddy Creek Park, which will ultimately be a new, exciting race venue. Rain Date In the event the trails are wet enough to sustain damage by the race, a rain date of August 2, 2009 has been reserved at the venue.
